State #2 at A&M Fall Tournament

College Station, TX.  The Texas State Bobcats finished in second place at the 2009 A&M Fall Tournament.
The team drove up Saturday evening to Mr. and Mrs. Richards' house where they were served a much needed
dinner of carbohydrates.  After "rookie initiation," a chat with Coach, and some cookies, the team was back on
the road to College Station.

Saturday morning the team played their first game against the University of North Texas and came up victorious (9-1).
With little to no break, they played the BearCats of Sam Houston State University and won (10-2).  The rest of the
afternoon was left to relaxing with friends and family.

That evening, the team went to dinner at Blue Baker Cafe where they enjoyed massive sandwiches, pizzas, and
bread bowls of soup.  After team photos were taken, they returned to their hotel.  The officers and captain attended
the TWLL (Texas Women's Lacrosse League) meeting to figure out the 2010 schedule, while the rest of the team
managed to find their way to the Dollar Store (sorry for all of those $1.09 charges to your accounts parents!)

Sunday morning the team awoke bright and early at 7:45am in order to check out of the hotel, gather their things, and
meet Coach at the fields at 9am.  State played the Texas A&M Aggies first, and won with a 6-4 victory.  In a fight
for first place, State played the University of Texas Longhorns.  In the first half, State held UT to 3-5, but after half,
the longhorns ran away with a 13-3 victory.

Despite the loss to UT, this is the second year in a row that Texas State has come in 2nd place at the A&M tournament,
which is a great feat!  Coach Bill Moir was pleased with the progress his team has made, and looks forward to working with them
full time in the spring.

Watch out SMU, UT, & A&M!

Alumni Game

San Marcos, TX. Texas State played their alumni in the annual Alumni Lacrosse Game this weekend!
With a great turnout from the Alumni, the game was competitive, fun, and safe!  Thanks so much to
Texas State Sport Clubs for helping us organize this weekend!  We look forward to next year!

State PlayDay @ UDallas

Irvine, TX.  Texas State had a successful weekend in Irvine, TX.  State played against a combined team made up
of players from the University of Dallas and Athena (a Dallas post-collegiate team) and Southern Methodist
University.  Coach Bill Moir came down from Minnesota to coach the team during these scrimmages.  The girls
were able to get used to his expectations and how he coaches as well as see themselves work in a setting other than
practice.  Although just scrimmages, State beat UDallas/Athena and tied SMU.

Thanks so much to Mr. & Mrs. Wallace for a bountiful spaghetti dinner Friday night, and to the Lardon Family as well
as the Scorse family for providing us with some space to stay!

Spartans No Match for Bobcats

3/10/09 Austin, TX. Texas State defeated the Missouri Baptist Spartans, an NAIA Division II team.
Texas State started slow, due to their lack of recent games, however pulled out early with
the lead.  Alli Rogers (Houston, TX/Memorial HS) led the defense in goal with great play from
teammates Lindsay Duckworth (Southlake, TX/Carroll HS) and Jennifer Murray (Houston, TX/
Klein).  Elissa Lardon (Austin, TX/Bowie HS) and Amanda Mounsey (Round
Rock, TX/Stony Point HS) controlled the draw throughout the game and played strong
offensive and defensive games.  Transitions were made possible due to hard work from Sarah
Porter (Austin, TX/Bowie HS) and Marissa Erhart (Austin, TX/Anderson HS). Both Mounsey
and Sarah Cooper (Austin, TX/Goucher College) contributed two goals a piece, Lardon and
Emily Von Ruff (Georgetown, TX/Cedar Park) each added a goal to finish off the Spartans
6-5.

Texas State's next two games are at Whitaker Fields in Austin, TX.  A 10:00am game against
the Rice Owls, followed by a 12:00pm game against the University of Texas Longhorns.
